Ideal Woman

What was the definition of the ideal woman? Possibly like Scarlett Johansson, but many people say pretty is relative. You can say some women beautiful but another can say she is ugly. Cleopatra for example sounded as the extraordinary pretty woman that attracted two famous Roman, Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony. In fact Cleopatra possibly unlike Elizabeth Taylor that played himself in the film. Almost all the statues, the painting, and Cleopatra's illustrated coin were destroyed during Roman Conquer but several that remained left what possibly the original potrait herself

Somewhat different from what we imagined? For many people possibly then. Apparently Cleopatra had teeth that were not too level, the very pointed nose (remember Cleopatra in the Asterix comic), and even according to the research was not too high and somewhat fat. So whether his beauty of only a myth? That not necessarily because In Cleopatra's period pretty was marked with clear skin and bright eyes. Cleopatra almost possibly had them and that made her very pretty. Moreover possibly not her face that attracted the two men but her charisma, skill, and warmth.

The other example was Saskia, the wife of the famous painter Rembrandt. In many of his paintings she was depicted as the fat woman and even had the multiple chin. But she and the other woman in her day (the 17th century) was categorised pretty because of the plump woman and had sparkled eyes was the same as the slim woman in filling the ideal category

Saskia, Rembrandt wife

The same thing was current in ancient China . In the Tang dynasty period, the plump woman was pretty and in the later period ,pretty indication was not seen from the face or the form of the body but from foot. More small your foot, more beauty you are. Approximately in the future, imagine what type of woman that we can say ideal?

Nefertiti?

Nefertiti, Egyptian Queen that her husband, famous pharaoh Akhnaten reorganised the traditional religion to only worshipped one god become popular because her potrait statue that currently in the Berlin museum. in that statue The Queen was showed had smooth brown skin, expressive eyes and full red lip. Overall we can say she is beautiful. The statue with matters like the pyramid, the mummy, and sphinx became the symbol for the ancient Egyptian world. in fact the Egyptian government had the plan at this time to ask for this head statue with several ancient Egyptian wealths over the world to be returned.

Are this astonishing image was real Nefertiti or This statue is only idealization from the queen?Several historians and the archaeologists were encouraged to want to know truth about her. That became the problem was the debate about the Nefertiti mummy . Until this the Queen mummy was not yet able to be severed was found or not yet. The two mysterious mummy's become candidates as Queen and Discovery Channel decided to reconstruct the face of a mummy that most strong expected was Nefertiti in their documentary film. This is the results:

.

But without being expected, many expert disagree the mummy was Nefertiti like Dr. Zahi Hawass and a few moments later according to the some DNA test from CBC , this mummy in fact was male! . The Discovery Chnnel heeded this claim and when the film being presented in England and Canada they did not change this Nefertiti drafting. The face of Nefertiti became mystery again.

Christian Symbol

Each religion had the special symbol. The Islam religion had symbol the crescent moon, the Buddhist religion with symbol the swastika, and the Hindu religion with the Sansekerta letter that sounded “om”. The Christian religion personally globally and was known to be wide with symbol the cross.

But few knew at the beginning of Christian religion we will not find the picture of the cross in places of their religious duties. Although before 4 AD was difficult to be found the church in a sense that is known by us now (because in thet period Christian religion was banned and its followers performed religious duties secretly), but they had catacombs that were the place of the funeral and proof they faith. The catacombs was the underground grave that compiled and was created because the normal funeral land did not want to accommodate the follower's Christian body. Catacomb usually was decorated with pictures that told about the death of the martyrs and Jesus's life (in the Islam religion,Prophet Isa AS) but overall the drafting are about miracle and various happy incidents. The prophet Moses took his people across beyond the Red Sea,, three holy people were safe from burnt alive punishment , Jesus perform his miracle with awakened died Lazarus and etc .But once again , we not have the cross. Jesus's drafting too was very different from what was this current. Jesus used the dress or Roman tunik with short hair and the face that were shaved clean.

Picture of Jesus's awakening Lazarus from one of the catacombs that was found in Rome.

Very different ? One of the reasons why Jesus was depicted had short hair and smooth face was the view in the Roman empire at that time that long hair, the moustache, and the beard were the sign of barbarian. But the view increasingly changed and in the 3th century ad the moustache and the whisker be fashionable so also Jesus's drafting began depicted he with long hair and moustache. Around 4th century AD pictures of the first crucifixion was made (Although still in the form of iconography manner and was not too clear). After that time the cross be the global symbol of that religion.

Vermeer

Vermeer was one of the Dutch painters from the 17th century and one of the painters that i most loved. Possibly in Indonesia not all that was known him if compared with Leonardo da Vinci, but in the international world, He is consider masters who was acknowledged. To knew more about Vermeer click : http://www.essentialvermeer.com/

This is one of his paintings, not that was most popular but some that most I liked.

The title is A GIRL READING A LETTER BY AN OPEN WINDOW or in Dutch language Brieflezend Meisje bij het Venster. Made around the year 1657-1659.

Like the simple picture about a girl who read the letter but in fact had the more meaning . In the 17th century, the drafting of the letter or wrote letters in art was the symbol of the love. In other words this girl was reading the letter from the person who was loved, possibly the sweetheart or the husband. The drafting of the letter also was the symbol of the far away place. To clarify the intention to this painting, Vermeer in fact depicted an illustrated Cupid painting in the part that now is the hollow wall but afterwards he covered him with the paint. Possibly because he dont want the painting is too easy for be read.

Vermeer was the expert in creating the intimate situation. The green curtain available in this painting also had the function in order to leave the intimate impression, as though we carry out surveillance of secretly. This green curtain also had the impression as though the illusion of the depth and the perspective happening. The other function was for trompe l oeil or cheated eyes. the green Curtain eyes was made so that the person who saw him thinks the curtain was serious because in the 17th age the painting often was covered with the curtain and only was opened if having special occasion.
